Travelers: Be Aware of Fuel Surcharge Scams

The travel industry today is still witnessing its share of  scams by some third-party agencies, foreign-based airlines, and niche-market tour operators who continue to add plus fuel surcharges to its tours. Not only does this go against the Department of Transportation rules, but it also questions the politics of tour operators with supposedly ethical standards who continue to perpetuate this scam.  Travelers should be aware of tour operators who propose an unusually low fare followed by a ridiculously high fuel surcharge, or third-party agencies that dangle deals of “discount” airfares and save the surcharge surprise for later.
