Québec’s National Shrines, Where the past comes alive!

 

An Experience Worth Living ! Province of Quebec in Canada prides itself on the richness of four great National Shrines. Saint-Anne-de-Beaupré, the oldest, has been visited by pilgrims for the past 350 years. Our Lady of the Cape Shrine was founded at Trois-Rivières in 1888. Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal in Montreal was founded in 1904 by Saint Brother André, canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010. The Shrine of Saint-Anthony’s Hermitage was founded in 1908. These shrines receive a total of 3,000,000 visitors annually, a number that shows the success of their intended purposes. A visit to these national shrines is truly a spiritual and also an historical experience. Our Lady of the Cape Shrine

Founded in 1888, and located in Trois-Rivières, Our Lady of the Cape Shrine is Canada’s National Shrine to Our Blessed Mother. Located on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, it welcomes 250,000 pilgrims annually. Visitors can admire the historical chapel built in 1714, one of the two oldest churches in Canada. A large modern basilica was inaugurated in 1964. Its stained glass windows are magnificent and the Casavant organ counts 5425 pipes. The spacious grounds bordering the river inspire peace and tranquility and form part of the religious and spiritual heritage of the province of Québec. Visitors can count on a large restaurant and a 113-room hotel with private bathroom in each room. Many meeting rooms are also available to welcome groups and congresses. There are also guided tours and a large gift store.

Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal

Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal is recognized as the largest shrine in the world dedicated to Saint Joseph; a jewel of Canadian history! A haven of peace and spirituality in the heart of Montréal, Saint Joseph’s Oratory offers religious celebrations, concerts, exhibits, encounters and a host of other activities. In the spirit of its founder Saint Brother André, this center of pilgrimage continues its ministry to all people in this unique setting of natural beauty. Founded in 1904, this sacred space welcomes over 2 million pilgrims and visitors annually. It offers many services such as lodging, restaurant, gift shop, exhibition halls and meeting rooms, for an enriched cultural and spiritual experience.

Shrine of Sainte-Anne de-Beaupré

The Shrine of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, located only 20 minutes from Québec City, welcomes more than a million visitors annually. For over 350 years, people of all ages have been gathering at this shrine dedicated to Saint Anne, the grandmother of Jesus. Discover its extraordinary history through numerous artistic masterpieces: paintings, mosaics, stained-glass windows, stone and wooden sculptures, etc. Liturgical celebrations, including daily Mass, are offered. Other services include an audioguide in four languages, a cafeteria, a gift shop, lodging, etc. At the Saint Anne Museum, discover the rich history of devotion to Saint Anne. Admire many works of art, as well as the largest collection of exvotos in North America.
