Jordan Launches National Tourism Strategy

The National Tourism Strategy 2011-2015 was launched on July 28, 2011 at a ceremony held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Marouf Al Bakhit, Prime Minister of Jordan. The strategy was developed over the past year, working with groups that specialize in marketing, product development, human resource development and environmental management. Leading the process were members of the private sector with the guidance of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (MoTA). The Jordan Tourism Board (JTB), Department of Antiquities and the Federation of Tourism Associations were also brought in as partners while the USAID Jordan Tourism Development project (Siyaha) provided technical expertise and funding.

The strategy details the actions needed to raise the overall competitiveness of Jordan’s tourism industry by enhancing visitor experience through product development and better promotion. It also built on the achievements of the strategy implemented on 2004-2010 and will guide the development of Jordan’s tourism sector over the next five years with the overall goal of increasing Jordan’s tourism receipts to JD4.2 billion by 2015.
