Cuba Trips Focus on Catholic, Jewish Traditions
Road Scholar, in cooperation with the Center for Caribbean Religion and Culture, offers “Cuba Today: Religion and Society,” an eight-night Cuba tour with seven departures from Oct. 4 to Dec. 8, 2011. Roundtrip airfare from Miami is included in the price, which begins at $2,995.
Highlights include meeting with a local priest who discusses the state of religion in Cuba today. Tour members also visit synagogues and meet with members of Jewish communities. Sightseeing in Havana includes a walking tour of the restored plazas and squares and the Spanish Baroque Cathedral de la Havana, a church that once housed the ashes of Christopher Columbus’ son, Diego. In the village of Regla, the groups explore the rituals of Afro-Cuban Santeria, or saint worship.
After four nights in Havana, groups stay three nights in Cienfuegos.
Road Scholar also offers the eight-night “Shalom Cuba: Exploring Jewish Heritage,” with seven departures from Sept. 27 to Dec. 1. (www.roadscholar.org)
